Representative prices are given for some of the more common handle materials. Write or email for prices on others. Models pictured with bolsters are available in interframe style for $100 extra. Most stones are $200, jade is $300-$500, and Lapis is $300-$500. The 5-piece semi-interframe pictured on the gallery page is an extra $400 in shells and $600 in stones. Blades may be ground hollow or flat, and finished mirror or satin.

In pursuit of a truly unique knife, I have developed and patented two locking mechanisms, the button-lock and the self-lock. These mechanisms reflect my belief that to be functional and convenient, a folder must be operable with one hand.

The button lock utilizes the same locking lug arrangement as a lock back. Depressing the button raises the locking bar with a cam action in the button mechanism. Button-locks are slightly more expensive because they are more difficult to make.

The self-lock at first appears similar to a liner lock but it is completely different. It gets its name from the fact that the blade locks itself in position; it is the only moving part besides a spring and ball bearing détente. The release is visible in the photographs under the front bolster. When the checkered surface of the release is depressed the base of the blade shifts upward and unlocks. In the locked position pressure on the cutting edge will not unlock it, but in fact locks it more securely with a binding action. The lock mechanism is contained within the base of the blade and recessed into the front bolsters. It is packed with grease and sealed against the entry of dirt.

I am often asked which lock I prefer. I have no preference; they are both easy to operate and convenient to use one handed. The self-lock has the advantage of being completely ambidextrous.

My standard blade material at this time is ATS-34 stainless tool steel, but virtually any steel is available, usually at no extra cost. I prefer not to use carbon steels because I feel corrosion is an issue in a folding knife. Handle frames are 416 stainless steel.
